Like many others waiting in line around the country, we finally laid hands on our iPhone. As we work on the review we'd like to provide you with some shots of the unboxing process, as well as some initial feedback on use with other SIM cards.
First off the bag and tiny box that the phone comes in:

The back of the box indicates its contents, as well as the activation policy. Note the important part: "minimum new two-year wireless service plan with AT&T required to activate all iPhone features, including iPod features." You don't have to activate the phone at the Apple/AT&T stores, but if you want to use it you'll either have to wait for it to be hacked or submit to your new overlords at AT&T.

Could you get a photo of it side-by-side with the Blackjack and Blackberry, with all 3 of them laying flat on a table (would a different-colored table be asking too much? Hard to see the edges of black phones on a dark table, especially with that lighting casting shadows) and take an edge-on photo to compare the thickness. Also throw in any other phones you have around; I'd actually like to compare it to a RAZR if possible.In other words, a photo just like the first one but taken from a table-level view. With maybe a white sheet of paper underneath. Or something else contrasty.

In 2001. A comparison of the iPhone with a Blackjack reminds me of some of the first comparisons between the iPod and the Zen Sleeks, Zen XTras, Zen Nomads, Diamond PMPs, etc.A blast from the past:

I don't know ALL of the competition, but the fact that there are multiple high end fashion/internet/media phones tells me that Apple has a good chance of carving a niche without needing to dominate the market.
After all, isn't that exactly what they do with the Mac, now?
They only need to sell to the 15m or so Mac users to trivially hit their 1m sales mark, and with a little work and probably a price drop will be able to hit 10m within a year.

I guess Apple wasn't interested in sending advance models out to tech sites for review. I actually searched for reviews on launch day, and only found such tech experts as The New York Times and Yahoo!I'll definitely be looking forward to a take on the iPhone from someone who can actually review it on criteria other than styling and trendiness.

They wanted to save money. All the free PR (which also made launchday reviews sort of obsolete) due to the hype gave them the opportunity to use the saved money for free iphones for all apple employees. :ptuteja1986 - Friday, June 29, 2007 - link
